RUSHMORE: PRETTY DAMN GOOD!
So last night I watched Rushmore for the first time. Since so many people spooge over this film, I was a little hesitant that this would be something along the lines of Napolean Dynamite, or Donnie Darko. Both good enough films, but grossly over rated. Well Rushmore lived up to the hype. The tweaked sense of humor was very satisfying. There seemed to be something to laugh at in every scene. Even when someone was getting their heart broken. It also chugged along with great pacing, never skipping a beat, even with it’s false ending(or at least I thought it was ending). I also enjoyed every character, which is surprising considering Bill Murray was cast. All in all, Rushmore lived up to expectation, and then some. I’ll definitely have to check out more Wes Anderson. Royal Tenenbaums is up next!

Network: Thirty years later, and still mad as hell.
I just watched Network for the first time a few days ago. I have to say, it blew me away. I almost didn’t know what to think of this film. At first glance, it’s a razor-sharp satire. But when you dig a little, it’s far more depressing. One aspect that amazed me was writer Paddy Chayefsky’s prediction of today’s television. There are scenes where characters jokingly talk about what have now become today’s reality shows. On top of the bastardization of modern t.v., Chayefsky also tackles other problems with the media. Throughout the film, there are moments of dialogue addressing the cliches we’re all accustomed to. Though I haven’t yet, this movie is begging for a re-watch. I’ve only had a while to process it, but I think this could definaltey become one of my favorite movies of all time.
